Marine Mammals

Marine mammals are a diverse group of warm-blooded, air-breathing aquatic animals that have adapted to life in the ocean. They include cetaceans (whales, dolphins, and porpoises), pinnipeds (seals, sea lions, and walruses), sirenians (manatees and dugongs), and sea otters. Marine mammals have several adaptations that allow them to live in the ocean, such as a thick layer of blubber for insulation, streamlined bodies for efficient swimming, and the ability to hold their breath for long periods of time. They play important roles in marine ecosystems, serving as top predators and helping to regulate populations of their prey. However, many species of marine mammals are threatened or endangered due to human activities such as hunting, pollution, and habitat destruction.
