Portable Container
In the maritime context, a portable container, also known as a shipping container, is a standardized reusable steel box used for the safe, efficient, and secure storage and movement of materials and products within a global containerized intermodal freight transport system. The containers are manufactured to standardized dimensions, allowing them to be easily loaded, transported, and unloaded between ships, rail, and truck platforms. They are designed to be moved without unloading and reloading their cargo, which significantly reduces the cost of transport and increases the speed of cargo transfer. The containers are also designed to withstand harsh marine environments, with features such as corrosion-resistant paint and strong, durable construction. They come in various sizes, with the most common being 20-foot and 40-foot lengths, and can carry a wide range of cargo, from general goods to specialized cargo such as refrigerated goods or dangerous goods.
