Pure oxygen refers to oxygen that has been separated from other gases and is not mixed with any other substance. In maritime context, pure oxygen is used in various applications such as welding, cutting, and medical treatment. In welding and cutting, pure oxygen is used as an oxidizer to increase the flame temperature and speed up the process. In medical treatment, pure oxygen is used to treat divers suffering from decompression sickness, also known as the bends. It is also used in emergency situations to resuscitate people who are suffering from hypoxia, a condition where the body is deprived of oxygen.
