Quarterdeck

Quarterdeck is a raised deck behind the main mast of a sailing ship. It is traditionally where the captain and officers command the vessel from, and where official ceremonies are performed. The quarterdeck is also a place where the ship's colors (national flag) are hoisted and lowered, and where salutes are fired to honor other ships or nations. In modern naval vessels, the quarterdeck is still a ceremonial area, but it also serves as a primary location for access control, as it is the entry point for officers and dignitaries. It is also used as a platform for boarding parties, and as a location for the ship's bell and loudspeaker system.
