Safety Barrier

A safety barrier is a physical structure or device designed to prevent or mitigate the impact of a potential hazard, such as collision, fire, explosion, or flooding, on a vessel, offshore platform, or other maritime structure. Safety barriers can be passive or active, and may include features such as blast walls, fire doors, watertight compartments, collision bulkheads, and emergency shutdown systems. The purpose of safety barriers is to protect personnel, equipment, and the environment from harm or damage, and to ensure the safe operation of the vessel or platform in all conditions.
