Safety Management System

A Safety Management System (SMS) is a structured and documented system designed to manage safety risks in the maritime industry. It includes policies, procedures, and practices for identifying, assessing, and controlling risks associated with maritime operations. The SMS is a proactive approach to safety that involves continuous improvement and the involvement of all personnel in the organization. It aims to prevent accidents, incidents, and injuries to personnel, damage to property, and harm to the environment. The SMS is mandatory for all vessels and shipping companies under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
