Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS)

Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) is an international maritime treaty that sets minimum safety standards for ships, their equipment, and their operations. The treaty was first adopted in 1914 in response to the sinking of the Titanic and has been updated several times since then. SOLAS covers a wide range of topics, including ship design and construction, fire protection, life-saving appliances, navigation, and communication equipment. The treaty applies to all ships engaged in international voyages, including passenger ships, cargo ships, and tankers. Compliance with SOLAS is mandatory and is enforced by flag states and port states through inspections and audits.
