Search And Rescue (SAR)

Search and Rescue (SAR) is a critical operation carried out in the maritime context to locate and assist people in distress or imminent danger at sea. It is a collective term for the efforts by specialized teams, equipment, and procedures used to save lives or property or to prevent injury during maritime emergencies. SAR operations are typically coordinated by a Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) and involve various maritime assets such as ships, helicopters, and lifeboats. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) sets global SAR standards, and the International Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue Manual (IAMSAR) provides the guidelines for conducting SAR operations. SAR operations can be complex and challenging due to factors such as harsh weather conditions, vast search areas, and the urgency of the situation. They require effective coordination, skilled personnel, and advanced technology to be successful.
