Semi-permeable Membrane

A semi-permeable membrane is a type of membrane that allows certain molecules or ions to pass through it by diffusion. The membrane is selectively permeable because it only allows certain substances to pass through while blocking others. In the maritime context, semi-permeable membranes are used in desalination plants to remove salt and other impurities from seawater. The membrane allows water molecules to pass through while blocking salt and other impurities, resulting in fresh water. This technology is commonly used on ships and offshore platforms to provide a source of fresh water for drinking, cooking, and other uses.
