Sextants

Sextants are navigational instruments used to measure the angle between two visible objects, typically the horizon and a celestial object such as the sun, moon, or stars. This angle, known as the altitude, can be used to determine a ship's position on the globe. Sextants are commonly used in maritime navigation, especially for long-distance voyages where accurate positioning is crucial. They are typically made of metal and have a small telescope and a graduated arc, which allows the navigator to measure the angle with precision. Sextants require a clear view of the horizon and the celestial object being observed, and are often used in conjunction with other navigational tools such as charts and compasses.
