Spinnaker Pole

A spinnaker pole is a horizontal spar used to hold the spinnaker or other foresails out from the mast and the boat's side. It is attached to the mast with a fitting called the mast car and to the spinnaker with a fitting called the topping lift. The spinnaker pole allows the sail to be positioned to catch the wind more effectively, especially when sailing downwind or on a broad reach. It can also be used to control the shape of the sail and to prevent it from collapsing. The length of the spinnaker pole is determined by the size of the sail and the boat's beam. It is typically made of lightweight materials such as aluminum or carbon fiber.
