Square-rigged Ship

A square-rigged ship is a type of vessel that has sails mounted on horizontal yards which are perpendicular to the mast. The sails are attached to the yards and can be adjusted to catch the wind from different directions. Square-rigged ships were commonly used in the 16th to the 19th century for trade, exploration, and warfare. They were known for their ability to sail against the wind and their large cargo capacity. However, they required a large crew to operate and were difficult to maneuver in tight spaces. Today, square-rigged ships are mostly used for training and tourism purposes.
