Stabilize

In maritime context, stabilize refers to the process of reducing the rolling and pitching motion of a vessel in rough seas. This is achieved by using stabilizers, which can be either active or passive. Active stabilizers use fins or gyroscopes to counteract the motion of the waves, while passive stabilizers use weights or tanks to shift the vessel's center of gravity. Stabilization is important for the safety and comfort of passengers and crew, as excessive rolling and pitching can cause seasickness, injuries, and damage to the vessel and its cargo. Stabilization can also improve the efficiency of the vessel by reducing fuel consumption and increasing speed.
