Stanchion
A stanchion is a vertical post or pole that is used to support a structure or a railing on a ship. In maritime context, stanchions are commonly used to support safety railings on decks and walkways to prevent people from falling overboard. They are usually made of metal or wood and are securely fastened to the deck or hull of the ship. Stanchions can also be used to support cargo or equipment on the deck of a ship during transport.
