Decks

In maritime context, decks refer to the horizontal surfaces of a ship that are exposed to the weather and sea. The main deck is the uppermost continuous deck and is usually the deck on which the ship's guns are carried. The lower decks are numbered in sequence from the main deck downwards, such as the second deck, third deck, etc. The weather deck is the uppermost deck that is not entirely enclosed, while the shelter deck is the deck immediately below the weather deck. The term 'deck' can also refer to a specific area of a ship, such as the forecastle deck or poop deck.
