Stern Line

A stern line is a mooring line that is attached to the stern of a vessel and used to secure the vessel to a dock or other stationary object. The stern line is typically one of several lines used to secure a vessel in place, and is often used in conjunction with bow lines and spring lines. The stern line is important for keeping the vessel from drifting away from the dock or other stationary object, and for maintaining the vessel's position while loading or unloading cargo or passengers. The stern line should be of sufficient strength and length to withstand the forces of wind, waves, and current, and should be secured to a strong point on the vessel's stern.
