Storm Warning
Storm Warning is a weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service to alert mariners of the possibility of winds of 48 knots (55 mph) or greater, usually associated with thunderstorms, hail, or other severe weather. Storm warnings are issued for areas where the winds are expected to be less than hurricane force (64 knots or greater) but still strong enough to be hazardous to small boats. Mariners are advised to take immediate action to secure their vessels and avoid sailing until the storm has passed. Storm warnings are usually broadcasted on VHF radio and other communication channels to ensure that all mariners in the affected area are aware of the potential danger.
