Strip Theory

Strip theory is a mathematical method used in naval architecture to predict the motion and loads on a ship in waves. It involves dividing the hull into a series of strips and analyzing the hydrodynamic forces acting on each strip. The method takes into account the wave profile, the ship's speed and heading, and the hull geometry to calculate the wave-induced forces and moments on the ship. Strip theory is commonly used in the design of high-speed vessels, such as planing boats and catamarans, where the wave resistance and slamming loads are critical design factors.
