Take In
Take In is a nautical term that refers to the act of reducing the area of a sail exposed to the wind by partially furling or reefing it. This is done to decrease the sail's surface area and to maintain control of the vessel during high winds or heavy weather conditions. Taking in sail can be done manually or with the help of mechanical devices such as winches or furling systems. It is important to take in sail in a timely manner to prevent damage to the vessel or crew. Failure to take in sail during adverse weather conditions can result in capsizing or loss of control of the vessel.
