Tenon
In maritime context, a tenon is a projecting piece of wood or other material that is inserted into a mortise hole to join two pieces of a ship's structure together. The tenon is usually wider than the mortise hole and is secured in place with wooden pegs or metal fasteners. Tenons are commonly used in shipbuilding for joining frames, planks, and other structural elements. The strength and durability of a tenon joint depend on the quality of the materials used, the precision of the mortise and tenon cuts, and the skill of the shipbuilder in fitting the pieces together.
