Thwart

A thwart is a crossbeam placed athwartship (side to side) in a boat or a ship to provide support to the structure and to the crew. Thwarts can be found in different parts of a vessel, such as in rowboats, where they serve as seats for the rowers, or in larger ships, where they are used to support the deck and provide a platform for the crew to stand on. Thwarts can be made of different materials, such as wood, metal, or composite materials, and can be fixed or removable. They are an essential part of the vessel's structure and contribute to its stability and safety.
