Transverse Bulkheads

Transverse bulkheads are walls or partitions that run perpendicular to the centerline of a ship, dividing the interior of the vessel into separate compartments. These bulkheads are an essential component of a ship's structural integrity, providing support and stability to the vessel. In the event of a collision or grounding, transverse bulkheads help to contain flooding and prevent the ship from sinking. They also serve as fire barriers, helping to prevent the spread of flames and smoke throughout the ship. Transverse bulkheads are typically made of steel and are designed to withstand the forces of the sea and the weight of the cargo or passengers on board.
