Voyage Charter
A voyage charter is a contract between a shipowner and a charterer for the hire of a vessel for a single voyage between specific ports. The charterer is responsible for paying for the use of the vessel, as well as for the costs of fuel, port fees, and other expenses associated with the voyage. The shipowner is responsible for providing a seaworthy vessel and crew, as well as for paying for the vessel's insurance and maintenance costs. The terms of a voyage charter can vary widely depending on the needs of the charterer and the availability of suitable vessels. Voyage charters are commonly used in the shipping industry to transport bulk commodities such as oil, grain, and coal.
