Wave Energy Converters

Wave Energy Converters (WECs) are devices that harness the energy from ocean waves and convert it into electricity. There are various types of WECs, including point absorbers, oscillating water columns, and attenuators. Point absorbers are buoy-like devices that move up and down with the waves, generating electricity through a power take-off system. Oscillating water columns use the motion of waves to compress air in a chamber, which drives a turbine to generate electricity. Attenuators are long, floating devices that move with the waves and generate electricity through the motion of internal components. WECs have the potential to provide a significant source of renewable energy, but their effectiveness is dependent on factors such as wave height, frequency, and direction.
