Wave Height

Wave height is the vertical distance between the crest (top) and the trough (bottom) of a wave. It is measured from the still water level to the highest point of the wave. Wave height is an important parameter in maritime operations as it affects the safety and stability of ships at sea. High waves can cause a ship to capsize or take on water, while low waves can make it difficult for a ship to maintain speed and stability. Wave height is influenced by a variety of factors including wind speed, wind duration, and fetch (the distance over which wind can blow over water).
