Wave-making Resistance

Wave-making resistance is the energy required to create waves as a ship moves through the water. When a ship moves through the water, it creates a series of waves that propagate outwards. These waves represent a loss of energy, as the ship must expend energy to create them. The energy required to create these waves is known as wave-making resistance. This resistance is affected by the size and shape of the ship, as well as the speed at which it is moving. Minimizing wave-making resistance is important for reducing a ship's fuel consumption and increasing its speed.
