WGS84

WGS84 (World Geodetic System 1984) is a global reference system used for locating points on the earth's surface. It is the standard coordinate system used by the Global Positioning System (GPS) and is widely used in maritime navigation. WGS84 defines the shape of the earth as an oblate spheroid, with an equatorial radius of 6,378,137 meters and a polar radius of 6,356,752.3142 meters. It also defines the zero meridian as the line passing through the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, England. WGS84 is regularly updated to account for changes in the earth's rotation and other factors affecting its shape.
