Wind Scoop

A wind scoop is a device used on sailing vessels to direct fresh air below deck. It is typically a canvas or fabric funnel that is hung over the hatch or companionway of a boat, with the wide end facing into the wind. As the wind blows into the funnel, it creates a low-pressure area inside the boat, which draws hot, stale air out of the cabin and replaces it with cooler, fresher air from outside. Wind scoops are particularly useful in hot, humid climates where ventilation below deck is essential for crew comfort and to prevent mold and mildew from forming. They are commonly used on sailboats, but can also be used on powerboats.
