Wiper

In maritime context, a wiper is an entry-level crew member responsible for cleaning and maintenance duties on board a ship. They are responsible for keeping the ship's living quarters, decks, and common areas clean and tidy. Wipers also assist with the maintenance of the ship's machinery and equipment, including cleaning and painting. They work under the supervision of the chief engineer and other senior crew members. Wipers are typically recruited from developing countries and are often the first step in a career at sea.
