Atmospheric Pressure
Atmospheric pressure is the force exerted by the weight of the Earth's atmosphere on the surface of the ocean. It is measured in units of pressure called atmospheres (atm) or millibars (mb). Atmospheric pressure affects the behavior of the ocean and the weather. High pressure systems are associated with clear skies and calm weather, while low pressure systems are associated with stormy weather. In the ocean, changes in atmospheric pressure can cause changes in sea level and ocean currents. Atmospheric pressure is an important factor in navigation and weather forecasting.
