Calm

Calm refers to a state of the sea where there is little or no wind, and the surface of the water is smooth and undisturbed. In maritime context, calm conditions are desirable for safe navigation and for carrying out various operations such as loading and unloading of cargo, fishing, and offshore drilling. However, prolonged periods of calm can also be problematic for ships as they may run out of fuel or provisions due to lack of wind for propulsion. Calm conditions can also be a precursor to storms, as they often occur in the eye of a hurricane or tropical cyclone. Therefore, it is important for mariners to monitor weather conditions and take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the vessel and crew.
