Cannon

A cannon is a large, heavy piece of artillery that fires heavy metal balls called cannonballs. Cannons were first used in naval warfare in the 14th century and were an important part of naval warfare until the 19th century. Cannons were used to sink enemy ships, damage their hulls, and kill their crew. They were also used to defend ships from enemy attacks. Cannons were mounted on the decks of ships and were fired by lighting a fuse. The recoil from firing a cannon was so strong that it could damage the ship if it was not properly secured. Cannons were eventually replaced by more advanced weapons, such as torpedoes and missiles.
