Cast Off
Cast off is a term used in maritime context which means to release a vessel from its moorings or to let go of a line that is securing the vessel to the dock. It is an important procedure that needs to be done carefully and safely to avoid any damage to the vessel or injury to the crew. Before casting off, the crew needs to ensure that all the lines are properly coiled and stowed, the fenders are removed, and the engines are ready to be started. Once everything is in order, the captain or the helmsman gives the signal to cast off and the crew releases the lines. The vessel then moves away from the dock and begins its journey.
