Coastal Engineering

Coastal engineering is a branch of civil engineering that focuses on the design, construction, and maintenance of structures and systems that protect coastal areas from erosion, flooding, and other natural hazards. It involves the application of principles from various fields such as oceanography, geology, and environmental science to develop solutions that balance the needs of coastal communities with the preservation of natural resources. Coastal engineers work on projects such as beach nourishment, seawalls, breakwaters, and offshore structures. They also study the effects of climate change and sea level rise on coastal areas and develop strategies to mitigate their impacts.
