Sea Level Rise

Sea-level rise refers to the long-term increase in the average global sea level, primarily caused by the thermal expansion of the oceans and the melting of glaciers and ice caps. This phenomenon is a result of climate change and is expected to continue and accelerate in the coming decades, leading to significant impacts on coastal communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems. Sea-level rise can cause more frequent and severe coastal flooding, erosion, saltwater intrusion, and loss of habitat for marine and terrestrial species. It also poses a threat to low-lying islands and countries, and can exacerbate social and economic inequalities. Adaptation measures such as coastal protection, land-use planning, and relocation may be necessary to mitigate the impacts of sea-level rise.
