Communication Devices
In the maritime context, communication devices refer to the various types of equipment used on ships and other marine vessels to facilitate communication with other vessels, shore stations, and satellite systems. These devices are crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of maritime operations. They include, but are not limited to, Very High Frequency (VHF) radios, Satellite Communication (SatCom) systems, and Automatic Identification Systems (AIS). VHF radios are used for short-range communication and are essential for distress signaling and safety calls. SatCom systems, on the other hand, provide long-range communication capabilities, enabling vessels to stay connected even when they are far out at sea. They are used for voice calls, data transmission, and emergency communication. AIS is a tracking system used for identifying and locating vessels by electronically exchanging data with other nearby vessels, AIS base stations, and satellites. It provides information such as vessel identity, position, course, and speed.
