Composite Materials

Composite materials are engineered materials made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties. In the maritime context, composite materials are used in the construction of boats, ships, and other marine structures. These materials offer several advantages over traditional materials such as steel and aluminum, including high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and design flexibility. Composite materials used in the maritime industry include fiberglass, carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), and aramid fiber reinforced polymer (AFRP). These materials are used in various applications such as hulls, decks, masts, and superstructures.
