Davit

A davit is a small crane-like device used on board a ship to lower and raise boats, life rafts, or other equipment. It consists of a vertical or inclined pillar, a horizontal beam, and a winch or other lifting mechanism. Davits are typically found on larger vessels, such as cargo ships, cruise ships, and naval vessels, and are used to launch and recover smaller boats for transportation, rescue, or other purposes. They are an essential safety feature on ships and must be regularly inspected and maintained to ensure their proper functioning.
