Doubler

In maritime context, a doubler is a piece of steel plate that is welded to the hull of a ship to reinforce and strengthen it. Doubler plates are commonly used in areas of the ship that are subject to high stress or impact, such as the bow or stern. They are also used to repair damage to the hull caused by collisions or grounding. Doubler plates are typically cut to fit the shape of the hull and welded in place by certified welders. The thickness and size of the doubler plate is determined by the ship's classification society and the ship's designer.
