Electronic Chart Display And Information System

Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) is a computer-based navigation system that integrates electronic navigational charts (ENCs) and position data to provide real-time navigational information to the mariners. ECDIS is designed to enhance the safety of navigation by providing continuous position and navigational safety information. It displays the vessel's position, course, and speed, as well as other navigational information such as depth, buoys, and navigational hazards. ECDIS also provides route planning and monitoring capabilities, allowing the mariners to plan and monitor the vessel's route in real-time. ECDIS is mandatory for all vessels over 500 gross tonnage engaged in international voyages since 2018.
