End-for-end

End-for-end refers to the process of splicing two ropes together by interweaving their strands. This is done by unlaying the strands of each rope for a short distance, then interweaving them with the corresponding strands of the other rope. The result is a strong and secure splice that can be used to join two ropes of equal diameter. End-for-end splices are commonly used in maritime contexts, such as for joining the two ends of a hawser or mooring line. This type of splice is preferred over knots, which can weaken the rope and cause it to fail under heavy loads.
