Face Plate

In maritime context, a face plate refers to a metal plate that is attached to the front of a ship's winch or windlass. The face plate is used to guide the anchor chain or rope as it is being wound in or paid out. It also helps to distribute the load evenly across the winch drum and prevents the chain or rope from slipping off the drum. Face plates are typically made of high-strength steel and are designed to withstand the heavy loads and stresses that are placed on them during anchor handling operations.
