Plate Boundaries

In maritime context, plate boundaries refer to the areas where two or more tectonic plates meet. These boundaries can be divergent, convergent, or transform. Divergent boundaries occur when plates move away from each other, creating new crust and causing seafloor spreading. Convergent boundaries occur when plates move towards each other, resulting in subduction zones where one plate is forced beneath the other. This can cause volcanic activity and earthquakes. Transform boundaries occur when plates slide past each other, causing lateral movement and creating strike-slip faults. Understanding plate boundaries is important in predicting and mitigating the effects of natural disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes.
