Flow Rate

Flow rate is the volume of fluid that passes through a given cross-sectional area per unit time. In maritime context, flow rate is an important parameter in the design and operation of various systems such as ballast water treatment, fuel oil transfer, and bilge water management. For example, in ballast water treatment systems, the flow rate determines the amount of time required for the ballast water to be treated before it is discharged. Similarly, in fuel oil transfer systems, the flow rate determines the time required to transfer fuel from one tank to another. Flow rate is typically measured in cubic meters per hour (m3/h) or gallons per minute (gpm).
