Greenhouse Gas

Greenhouse gases are gases that trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere and contribute to the greenhouse effect. The most common greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. These gases are released into the atmosphere through natural processes such as volcanic eruptions and human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes. In the maritime context, ships are a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships, including the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP).
