Hawse Hole
A hawse hole is a small opening in the bow of a ship through which the anchor chain passes. It is usually lined with a metal pipe called a hawsepipe to protect the hull from damage caused by the chain. The hawse hole is an important part of the ship's anchor system, as it allows the anchor chain to be deployed and retrieved easily. The size and shape of the hawse hole depend on the size and type of the ship, as well as the size of the anchor chain. In modern ships, the hawse hole is often located below the waterline to reduce drag and improve the ship's performance.
