Hyperbaric Chamber

A hyperbaric chamber is a sealed chamber designed to allow a person to breathe pure oxygen at higher than atmospheric pressure. In the maritime context, hyperbaric chambers are commonly used to treat divers suffering from decompression sickness, also known as the bends. The increased pressure in the chamber helps to dissolve excess nitrogen gas in the diver's body, reducing the size of the gas bubbles that cause the bends. Hyperbaric chambers are also used to treat other diving-related injuries, such as air embolisms and carbon monoxide poisoning. Additionally, hyperbaric chambers are used in the offshore oil and gas industry to treat workers suffering from decompression sickness or other injuries that require high-pressure oxygen therapy.
