Ionosphere

The ionosphere is a layer of the Earth's atmosphere that extends from about 60 km to 1000 km above the Earth's surface. It is ionized by solar radiation, and contains ions and free electrons that can reflect and refract radio waves. This property of the ionosphere makes it important for long-range radio communication, as it allows radio waves to be bounced off the ionosphere and back to Earth. The ionosphere also plays a role in the propagation of GPS signals, and can affect the accuracy of GPS measurements. The ionosphere is constantly changing due to variations in solar radiation, and can be affected by events such as solar flares and geomagnetic storms.
