Solar Flares

Solar flares are sudden and intense bursts of radiation from the sun's surface that can cause disturbances in the Earth's atmosphere and magnetic field. These flares are often accompanied by coronal mass ejections (CMEs), which are massive eruptions of plasma and magnetic fields from the sun's corona. Solar flares and CMEs can cause geomagnetic storms, which can disrupt satellite and radio communications, power grids, and navigation systems. In the maritime context, solar flares and CMEs can also pose a threat to ships and crews, particularly those operating in polar regions where the Earth's magnetic field is weaker and more susceptible to disruption.
