King-spoke
King-spoke is a term used in the maritime industry to refer to the spoke of a ship's wheel that is directly connected to the rudder. It is called the 'king-spoke' because it is the most important spoke on the wheel, and turning it will cause the rudder to move and steer the ship. The king-spoke is usually located at the top of the wheel, and is often marked with a distinctive symbol or color to make it easy for the helmsman to identify. In emergency situations, the helmsman may be instructed to turn the king-spoke hard over, which means turning it as far as possible in one direction to make a sharp turn.
